Functional Therapy for Kids

From birth through adolescence, children experience many important developmental milestones. When delays occur, occupational therapy can play a vital role in helping children build the skills they need to thrive.

At the heart of our approach is collaboration. We work closely with your child and your family to support functional growth and independence. Using therapeutic play, meaningful activities, and ongoing parent education, we aim to help your child reach their full potential. You won’t be doing this alone — we are a team: your child, your family, and your occupational therapist, working together every step of the way.

What to Expect

As part of the initial evaluation, your child will be assessed across all key developmental milestones. This allows us to create a personalized treatment plan that is responsive to their unique strengths and challenges.

Our Comprehensive Occupational Therapy Evaluation Includes:

  • Posture, balance, and overall strength

  • Fine and gross motor coordination

  • Hand-eye coordination

  • Body mechanics and motor planning

  • Reflex integration

  • Joint and limb range of motion

  • Visual scanning and perceptual skills

  • Daily living activities (feeding, dressing, grooming, toileting, bathing)

  • Social interaction and communication

  • Play skills

Let’s work together to empower your child with the skills they need for daily success — now and in the future.

Sensory Integration Therapy for Kids

Every day, children rely on eight interconnected sensory systems to understand and interact with the world around them. For some children, these systems don’t work together as smoothly as they should. When the brain has difficulty processing sensory input, it can lead to feelings of being overwhelmed or under-responsive, affecting comfort, focus, and participation in daily activities.

Children who are overwhelmed by sensory input may avoid certain sensations or become easily distressed. On the other hand, children who are under-responsive may seem unaware of sensory cues, leading to challenges with attention, coordination, or safety.

Our occupational therapy interventions are designed to help children regulate their sensory responses so they can feel safe, calm, and capable. Through purposeful sensory play, movement activities, and the development of a personalized sensory diet, we support your child’s ability to navigate their environment with confidence and ease.

By enhancing sensory integration, we empower children to feel more comfortable in their bodies, better engage with others, and participate more fully in everyday life.

The eight sensory systems include:

  1. Visual – Processing what we see

  2. Tactile – Interpreting touch through the skin

  3. Auditory – Understanding and responding to sound

  4. Olfactory – Sensing and identifying smells

  5. Gustatory – Processing tastes

  6. Vestibular – Maintaining balance and understanding head/body position in space

  7. Proprioceptive – Sensing body position and movement through muscles and joints

  8. Interoceptive – Interpreting internal signals like hunger, thirst, or the need to use the bathroom
